Everything is Unfinished

Greetings from Colorado

Left unfinished by Amy :) @ 1:15 am

Jack and I are visiting my friend Jen in Colorado Springs this week. Jen and I went to college together, and she and her husband moved out here from Columbus last fall. They have an 18-month-old son, Tyler, and he and Jack are becoming fast friends. I don’t have any pictures of the two of them together but here’s Jack enjoying some tummy time today:

This isn’t really a go-go-go touristy vacation for me. Since we both have babies and we haven’t seen each other in 6 months we’re just hanging out. Jen started a moms group out here and I’ve met a few of the other moms and kids and there are some more playdates scheduled later this week. We are going to the Garden of the Gods tomorrow so I’ll try to get some good pictures to post. For now though, I’m going to bed - and hopefully so is Jack!

The Difference

Left unfinished by Amy :) @ 4:55 pm

Already being a scrapbooker, I have amassed a lot of ideas and tips for baby pictures that I’m already putting to good use. For instance, each month for the first year, take a picture of baby next to the same stuffed animal to see how baby grows. I’ve actually managed to do this for Jack’s first 2 months, and it’s amazing to see how different he already is!

Granted, we had just gotten home from the hospital the day of the 1 month picture on top, but he’s still so much more alert now, and has way more control over his head. You can see Johnny’s hand in the first picture keeping Jack upright, and in the second he didn’t need that (which is good, since I took the picture while Johnny wasn’t home). It’s crazy the amount of time I still spend just looking at him, watching him move and look around and make little baby noises. That’s another piece of advice I’ve heard over and over again, and actually taken to heart: enjoy every moment.

Tipping the Scales

Left unfinished by Amy :) @ 11:34 pm

Jack had his 2 month doctor appointment today, and in just under 2 weeks he’s gained 1 lb. 11 oz. to weigh in at 10 1/2 pounds! He went from the 5th percentile at his 1 month appt. to the 25th percentile. Now that’s what I call making up for lost time.

He also got his first set of shots today, poor guy. He was cranky most of the afternoon and evening, not wanting to be put down. But now, 12 hours later, he’s in his bouncy seat trying his best to keep himself awake. I don’t like that he’s already figured out how to do that - it doesn’t give me hope for when he’s 2 years old. At least we have the car. Going for a ride puts him out like a light every time.

Night Duty

Left unfinished by Amy :) @ 4:25 am

Jack’s doing pretty well at sleeping for a 5 or 6 hour stretch, but that stretch is usually in the afternoon or evening. That means short naps during the night! Johnny and I take shifts with him overnight. I usually stay up until about 4, while Johnny goes to bed around 10. Then he gets up and I sleep until sometime in the morning. Or early afternoon, if I’m lucky. We do both get an hour or two of sleep here and there if Jack dozes off or is content, but I’m really hoping to get him to move his long stretch to the nighttime. Meanwhile here I sit, blogging while watching BabyFirst TV. Yes that’s right: the nation’s first television station just for babies! You’re probably scoffing right now. That’s ok, I did too at first. Then I watched some of it, and it is mesmerizing. Especially the nighttime programming. It’s all soft music and colorful images. We imagine it’s well-liked by both babies and stoned people. Unfortunately, the channel is 10 bucks a month so we won’t be subscribing to it. Instead, we Tivoed 8 hours each of the daytime and nighttime stuff so we have an entire videotape of each to save. That’s right, we’re teaching Jack how to save money already!

Speaking of money, the garage sale didn’t happen last week. My mom and I were too daunted by the task of getting the garage ready, so she decided she’d do it in a few weeks during the Community Garage Sale. Personally, I don’t care if she doesn’t have it at all - the stuff is out of my house, and that was really the point. Although there is enough left here that we couldn’t fit in the cars to haul up there that I’ll be having one here on my patio sometime in July.

Ahh, the mesmerizing images have put Jack to sleep! Now to try and transport him up to his bed for a while. Think sleepy thoughts for him.
