I said, I don’t want a percussionist in my house!

Left unfinished by Amy :) @ 4:03 am

Good thing these were taken at Gramma Jewell and Grampa Lynn’s house. But I must admit, he can already do rolls better than I could when I took percussion methods. Yikes.

More About My Crazy

Left unfinished by Amy :) @ 4:01 pm

There were questions after I posted my last entry, so I thought I’d talk more about my color/number thing.

Moe asked, “So, basically life is a big LSD trip for you?” Yes. Except there’s no dragon that eats my head, then immediately poops it out so my body has to stumble around trying to pick it up and reattach it, at which time the dragon eats it again.

Eric wondered, “Do the numbers correspond with any paint by numbers books from your youth? Are all paint by numbers the same (ie red = 1, blue = 2, etc.)? If so, you could just be some kind of genius for making the association as a small child and it just stuck with you. Are the colors that you associate with numbers common colors, or are they obscure colors, like mauve?” I do appreciate you calling me a genius, something I’ve long thought to be true. But I doubt it’s the paint-by-numbers theory: while the colors I see are all common, some are used for more than one number (see below), and that wouldn’t make a good picture.

Tonja inquired, “Do you think this somehow related to some book/poster that you learned numbers/counting from that you looked at repeatedly?” This theory is more plausible, and one that the articled I linked to talks about as well. I’m still not so sure though. Here’s my list:

0 is white (or sometimes black, depending on what other numbers it’s near)
1 is white
2 is yellow
3 is red
4 is orange
5 is blue
6 is green
7 is black
8 is orange
9 is purple (or sometimes black)

Kind of a strange collection, no? As much as I love purple, you’d expect more numbers to be purple. But only one is, and only sometimes. Two numbers are orange for some reason. And yet that’s how I see things in my head. My zip code is green-yellow-black-white-orange. Area code is yellow-white-black. House number is yellow-red-white-black. Anniversary is green-yellow-yellow-white-yellow. Jack’s birthday is orange-orange-white-green. I can’t say I don’t enjoy it though - Life can always use more color.

There’s a Name for my Crazy!

Left unfinished by Amy :) @ 1:14 pm

About a year ago, I posted that, in my head, the numbers from 0-9 are all associated with certain colors. I had never heard of anyone else experiencing that, but after I posted someone told me they’d heard of it happening to someone else. Imagine my surprise when last night, over a year later, I came across a link to the name of this phenomenon: synesthesia. Apparently it means “blending of the senses”, and people experience it in different ways. Some people hear colors, some taste textures, and others see numbers in color like I do. Although it appears I have a mild case: I see the colors in my head while some people, even though they know the number is black on the page in front of them, actually SEE it in its corresponding color. The article talks about this being caused by some cross-wiring in the brain which I can’t say I’m surprised about. I always suspected there was something strange going on up there.

I Didn’t Even Cry

Left unfinished by Amy :) @ 10:49 pm

Johnny’s been posting more on his blog than I have, as usual, because he has more free time than I do. Or he’s not as lazy. Or something. Anyway, you may have noticed, if you look at pictures over there, that Jack looks slightly different.

As you can see from the title of this entry, I didn’t cry - I was actually the one who had to convince Johnny that it would be ok! We didn’t have any of his curls cut off the back, just trimmed up the top and got rid of the Farrah Fawcett-esque wings on the sides. Jack also didn’t cry. He wouldn’t let the lady put the cape on him because it got in the way of him driving the Jeep, and he got a little freaked out when she turned the blow drier on so we just left with his hair slightly damp. So cute!

Is your heart pounding this hard too? Awesome.

One Man Rock Band

Left unfinished by Amy :) @ 2:10 pm

We made it out to the great Pacific Northwest a few days ago, and all is well. Jack was very good on the 2 planes, especially considering how tired he was. I’m glad we decided not to put him in a crate in the cargo hold after all.

So James has this Rock Band game for his PS3. I had heard about it, but until I saw it in action I had no idea how awesome it is! I like Guitar Hero, but I can only get so far before I start to suck. And by “so far” I mean “the end of Easy level”. But with Rock Band, you can also play the drums or sing. I did the drums on Medium and made it through, and I was singing on Hard and managed 100% on one song! Even the guitar part seemed easier for me - I played on Medium and didn’t get completely flustered. We’re in Seattle for the weekend, but when we get back to Johnny’s parents’ house, we’re definitely playing more. Even Johnny liked it because he could sing. And as soon as I figure out how to get the video I took of him online….heh heh heh.

Jack of course loved the game too, because there were cool things to play with.

What really amazed me and also kind of freaked me out is how he knew exactly what to do with the drumsticks. I don’t want a percussionist in my house! But seriously, how cute is that vest?

Quiet night at home ringing in 2008. Some Super Mario Galaxy, The Office season 3 on DVD, and cheese and crackers. As usual, Jack was the cutest guy ever.
