Say Hello to my Little Friend

Left unfinished by Amy :) @ 2:30 am

Happy early birthday to me! Johnny is absolutely horrible about surprises and loves to give gifts as soon as he buys them. So when he handed me the wrong bag yesterday, I received the beautiful present you see here: a pink 8GB iPod nano. He also got me a nice protective case (with non-slip surface on the back) and a $15 iTunes card to go with it. So cute! So new! And so small! Here it is next to my old iPod, a 4th generation 20GB clickwheel model. It’s so tiny I feel like I could snap it in half. But I certainly won’t, because then I couldn’t look at pictures on it, or watch Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, which is the first thing I purchased with my gift card. And even though the old behemoth had 20GB of space, I still managed to fit all my music on the new 8GB one. Kind of sad, yes. Hopefully I can sell the old one to someone who can fill it up!

Go. Now!

Left unfinished by Amy :) @ 2:40 am

Go and watch this. Seriously, go. Now! Trust me. If you’re a fan of anything Joss Whedon has done, go. If you’re a fan of Nathan Fillion or Neil Patrick Harris, go watch it. If you’re a fan of musicals, or comic books, or ALL THAT IS RIGHT AND GOOD WITH THE WORLD, go now! You have until the end of the day today. Then you’ll have to wait for it to come out on DVD and, you know, pay for it.

So go now!

Blast from the Past

Left unfinished by Amy :) @ 11:10 pm

Grampa & Jack

When we visited my parents a few weeks ago, my dad (pictured) presented Jack with a brand new Classic Radio Flyer red wagon. It’s just like the one I got for my 2nd birthday, back in 1977. Scratch that - it IS the one I got for my 2nd birthday. It’s 31 years old and looks like new, how can that be? Dad took it all apart and redid the whole thing. Radio Flyer sent him new decals and red hubcaps for the wheels and he repainted the body and put it all back together. Now Jack can ride in style at Gramma & Grampa’s house. But as for the “controlled turning radius” that “prevents tipping”? Yeah, I managed to dump him out on the walk to the fireworks. Go Mommy!

The Worst Possible Scenario

Left unfinished by Amy :) @ 8:54 am

“Whoa.”

That was the extent of Johnny’s reaction last Thursday evening as we were driving eastbound on I-70 near Richmond, Indiana and the car just suddenly died. He coasted over to the shoulder where he immediately tried to re-start it with no success. What a way to start a holiday weekend - but little did we know that the holiday weekend would end even worse.

Fortunately, the weekend itself was good. In fact, it was great. We had a cookout and went to the fireworks on the 4th, saw an old friend and caught a baseball game and more fireworks on the 5th, and stocked up on some essentials at Costco yesterday. Got to spend 3 days with my family, relaxed, sat around a fire and toasted marshmallows every night. Jack had a wonderful time being spoiled by Gramma and Grampa and Uncle Andy. But long holiday weekends have a way of ending, and how well they end is usually inversely proportional to how well they went. So we really shouldn’t have been surprised when the mechanic called us this morning and told us that we need a new engine in the car.

Happy 4th of July.
