I’ve been talking about this for a year and a half: Serenity finally comes out today. I was lucky enough to get a sneak-peak of the Big Damn Movie a few months ago, but I’m still nervous about how it will be received by audiences. Serenity might be the #1 movie in America this weekend. Or it might tank. So hard to tell. Check with Rotten Tomatoes to see how critics are taking it.
In honor of today, and trying to actually put content up, here we go: Nothing fills up space like a good list. This isn’t a good list, but here’s Top 50 Sci-Fi Shows according to some guy with no credentials. Farkers don’t like the list, or even it’s setup. You have to click for a new page for every entry. That’s 50 times! I’m too lazy to do it, so here’s the list that someone typed out:
1. Star Trek (original)
2. Battlestar Galactica (new)
3. Star Trek TNG
4. The X-Files
5. Babylon 5
6. Stargate SG-1
7. The Twighlight Zone
8. Dr. Who
9. MST 3000
10.Sliders
11.Lost
12.Xena-Warrior Princess
13.The Outer Limits
14.Star Trek- Voyager
15.Logans Run
16.Flash Gordon
17.Firefly
18.V
19.Dark Angel
20.The Hitchhiker
21.Quantum Leap
22.Andromeda
23.Tales from the Crypt
24.Wonder Woman
25.The Jetsons
26.Stargate Atlantis
27.Buffy the Vampire Slayer
28.Adventures or Superman
29.The Six Million Dollar Man
30.Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea
31.Alien Nation
32.My Favorite Martian
33.Lost in Space
34.The Avengers
35.Battlestar Galactica (original)
36.Bionic Woman
37.Space 1999
38.Batman
39.The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
40.The Thunderbirds
41.Futurama
42.Science Fiction Theater
43.Nowhere Man
44.Lois & Clark
45.The Greatest American Hero
46.That Was Then
47.Buck Rodgers
48.3rd Rock from the Sun
49.The Wild Wild West
50.Earth-Final Conflict
Lots of problems on the list, but some shows got some worthy respect. Maybe I’ll break it down more next week. Glad Firefly was on there, (even though Voyager was listed higher) because it’s another excuse to remind people that the movie that springboards from that show is almost here. Serenity opens today. Please go see it, it’s good.

I don’t know when I’ll be able to see tonight’s Lost episode, but I did want to pass along something of note to the show’s viewers: the genetic mirror theory. It’s been making the rounds on the internet lately. It certainly does explain the numbers. It’ll be interesting to see if this matches up. Also, never heard of it before so it wouldn’t surprise me if the theory was made-up and leaked by the show’s producers to support the premise of Lost. Lots of other theories being farked around.

Yeah, I know I said I would take the week off but I feel like I have to mention a thing or two because the movie that picks up where Firefly left off is coming out Monday. Here’s a way you can get ready for it: Tonight on the Sci-Fi channel, a special behind the scenes look at Serenity. And to keep up on all the Serenity scuttle, keep checking Wedonesque.
“I’ve, uh, quit drinking.”
“You’ve seen the error of your ways.”
“No, I just can’t afford it.”

It’s gonna be a rough week around here for a multitude of reasons, so I think I’m just gonna take this week off. Come back next week and I should be back on track. Also, I’ll probably do another lightning round for the quote contest so be ready for another chance to fire up the charts. You can keep up with some of my activities at Unabated Sports and be sure to check out Serenity this weekend. Please support The Little Movie That Could.

Not only are the Cincinnati Bengals 3-0, but they’ve done it in such a way that the game was pretty much decided after three quarters. The Seahawks tried it, their fans prefer it to sweating out the second half of the game. Makes it so much easier on the nerves.

It helps taking on innefective offenses but say what you will, the Bengals are off to a fast start! Do my eyes deceive me? The first place Cincinnati Bengals?! Hell, yeah. It’s 1990 all over again.
As excited as I am, I gotta remember this is a long season and playoff births aren’t clinched in September. I’m glad the team is winning now cause they still have to play Indianapolis, Buffalo, go to Arrowhead, Jacksonville, Tenessee, and Detroit, and two against Pittsburgh and Baltimore. Better rack up the wins now, cause they’ll be tougher to wrangle down the road.
“Is a skunk juggling dead hamsters in here?”

The unmovable obstacle verses the unstoppable object. Well, that’s an exaggeration for the Bears defense versus the Bengals offense but this is just one of the reasons this weekend looks so good. I mean, these two teams that are going head to head this week dominated their opponents last week and I don’t know if it’s even a top 5 most intriguing Week 3 match-up to the nation-at-large. Let’s see, there’s the AFC Championship rematch, Randy vs. T.O., the Eli Bowl, Peyton Gets His Groove Back, the Battle of the Turnover Queens, the Price Cutters, the Bay of Pigs, MAC QBs squaring off, The Catch flashback, Super Bowl XXXIV rematch, and a Chiefs visit to Mile High on Monday Night. The Seahawks-Cardinals and Dolphins-Panthers games should be good, too, I just don’t have clever names for them. And every week there’s outstanding match-ups like this. Which one are you looking forward to the most?
Getting back to Cincinnati, they’ve cracked the Top 10 Power Ranking. I wonder if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.
I can’t believe the 2-0 teams in the NFC are the New York Giants, the Tampa Bay Bucs, and the Washington Redskins. Man, it’s a good thing I’m not a gambler because I would’ve taken that bet in a heartbeat a month ago.
“Look, if I’m being honset, and I’m not trying to be mean, that was like getting shot in the face with a bazooka. Only the bazooka was loaded with the worst vocal performance ever. And the face was actually not my whole face but just my ears. Also, I hate you and I want your whole family to die. And anyone who disagrees with me is stupid. And you have no talent.”

We’re just a week away from the nationwide release of Serenity. I know many of you are boming up on your Firefly DVDs and reading the Dark Horse comic book preparing for the movie. You’re also checking out the early positive reviews. Although, one of those reviews was considered negative and he gave the movie 2 1/2 stars out of 4. That’s negative? Just another gripe I have with Rotten Tomatoes, otherwise a nice site.
Here’s something else for the fans to enjoy before the real movie gets on the big screen: a fan film based on Firefly. I already reviewed a preview of this film. I guess they debuted it at DragonCon (weird looking event) over the Labor Day weekend. I know a few of us were kind of frustrated that the preview was just a parody of the opening credits and left us wanting more. So now we have more! But, it’s not an actual episode. Instead, they give us a behind-the-scenes type documentary of the fake show from the actors who are playing actors. Still, it is so Airwolf! For Browncoats, this is a very funny piece that has some fun with the show and the creative people behind it. For the non-Firefly fan, at least it’s a fully developed piece that should be able to be enjoyed no matter how many episodes of the original you have seen.
“Dude! You should see the Blue Thunder I just left in the can!”

Lots of changes coming up for Adult Swim. The Cartoon Network’s late night programing block has been bringing in mad ratings. They’ll even expand programming an extra hour, starting at 10 p.m. beginning October 2. We’ve been getting new episodes of old favorites and a new show: Stroker and Hoop has been pretty good. There will also been a new show, Boondocks, starting in November. I guess it was supposed to be next month but I haven’t been paying attention.
Adult Swim is only off the air one night. Even then, we’ll be able to get our Friday Night Fix. Between the normal Adult Swim times, we’ll be able to download stuff to tide us over until the next night of comedy goodness.

Saturday Night Live had a lot of lean years in the 1990s and into this decade. But one consistently funny sketch was the Celebrity Jeopardy parodies. All Things Christie pointed out that site that has Mpegs of all 13 or so times they did it. That’s great because I had most of them on MP3s, but not all of them. Also, I got to see the one where Will Ferrell did it again when he was hosting the show. That brings up my first point, Will Ferrell carried that segment. Yes, Sean Connery got the best lines. Yes, the other celebrities were more outrageous. But he was the perfect foil for all those idiots to bounce off of.
This sketch brought a whole new meaning to the term “celebrity impersonator” as celebrities would do impersonations of other celebrities. I was impressed with David Duchovny’s Jeff Goldblum, whoever played Keanu Reeves, and Ben Stiller’s Tom Cruise. But not all of them could handle their characters. Matthew Perry’s Michael Keaton was essentially his Chandler Bing with the occassional “I’m Batman” thrown in. Maybe some more positives and negatives will shine or stink it up in the other ones I haven’t seen… yet.
In sporadic times, this sketch dependably delivered the goods. The Sock Drawer salutes Celebrity Jeopardy and it’s diego mustache.
