You may not know this but the end of the world is coming. Don’t worry about long-term financial planning because we’re not gonna make it past the next decade. Or we, as a species, will transcend to the next level where material possessions will no longer be necessary. Or nothing out of the ordinary will happen. That is what 2012 has to offer. The Mayan calendar ends that year. That year has a lot of “metaphysical predictions” surrounding it. Check out Survive 2012 for survival tips and theories on how we’re all going to bite it. Better start planning now because a lot can happen in 5 years. Personally, I’m keeping my eye out for anything named “Skynet.” So, if someone else could keep an eye out for apes that begin to talk, that’d be great.

Ugh. This is the fate of the Bearcats. My University of Cincinnati football squad is going to… ugh… Birmingham. Before Christmas. Double Ugh. For the lowest payout of all the bowls. More ugh. It’s not even sponsored by a corporation, it’s named after the company’s damn website! On top of that, our coach is being linked to other jobs. So much for a cheery end to the best season in over 50 years.
For some reason, three teams Cincinnati beat on the field got preference over us and ended up in more desirous games. Once again, this just shows why the NFL is the best. Yeah, college football has been exciting and had lots of drama this year, but when the ending is determined after the performance by politics, corrupt board members, and popularity… That’s the way ice skating is, that’s not the way football should be.
Am I being too hard on college football or is the NFL really the best. You tell me and you get a Sock Point.

Betcha you didn’t expect to see a picture of Jesus Christ hanging with some cold-blooded killers today, did ya? The biggest comic con in the area every year, the Mid-Ohio ComicCon is in Columbus the weekend after Thanksgiving. And every year I pretty much forget about it until it’s over. The Mid-Ohio Comic Con looks like it had some decent talent there once again. It’s the biggest convention in the region and I really would love to see a big event of this… genre. From what few pictures I’ve seen, the attendance didn’t seem like a lot, but the sights looked to be interesting. There was even a Femtrooper there. (Surprisingly, it doesn’t look as if Captain Ohio was there, though.) I gotta remember to go sometime. Maybe next year.
Wait, is that a chick in that Deadpool gear above?

“Art Babbitt! Astro Boy’s real name, asswipe!”

I saw another one recently and thought I would share my pictures with you. (If you slideshow them quickly enough, it looks like it can go along with some jaunty Christmas carols.) If this seems sort of familiar, I had pictures of one back in the 4th of July. If you’re into these kinds of events where the balloons are painstakingly put together so they can be launched inches into the air, then enjoy those pictures. Personally, I liked the one back in July. Summer’s a lot better time to be outside staring at fire from hundreds of yards away.

An outstanding performance in Cincinnati today: The Bengals dominated the Titans. Seriously. Completely. And Tennessee was the one that was still playing for the playoffs. Too bad this performance wasn’t back when the Bengals were in the playoff hunt, too. Still, it was nice to see Chad Johnson finally get back in the game, Carson Palmer get his groove on, and Rudi Johnson get back to looking like an NFL running back. It was like 2005 all over again.
Great football weekend for the home teams. The UC Bearcats scored their 9th win of the year and are waiting to find out what bowl they go to. Unfortunately, it sounds like one of the .com bowls.
The Turkey Day games were turkeys but we got a few interesting ones today… don’t you think? What’d you think of this extended football weekend?

We won’t be getting any 24 in 2008 it looks like. But what would 24 look like in 1994? A little something like this…
Technically, not a YouTube, but I really liked it. I saw this at Monitor Duty.
You can send me a YouTube link and if I like it (or need it) enough to put it up here, Sock Point to you.
Feel free to send your suggestions to my gmail account. It’s woodmania. I’d type it out but I don’t need more junk mail. Just your YouTube suggestions.

Alright, enough holiday sentimentality and good cheer around here. Let’s get back to the action.

I do love Thanksgiving. It’s Top 3 for me in holidays cause I love so much of what it has to offer. Food, family, football… what’s better than that? Maybe even throw in a parade, too. Hope you enjoy all this, too. Happy Thanksgiving from the Sock Drawer! Tell me where Tgiving ranks for you and you can get a Sock Point.

The lovely Lisa and I are now engaged. She was thoroughly stunned and surprised as I dropped to a knee last night in front of Fountain Square in downtown Cincinnati. We then capped off the evening with a horse-drawn carriage ride around Cincinnati and calls to family. The night was pretty much a blur but she said yes and that’s a binding verbal contract. Feel free to send congratulations to me and condolences to her.
